Max's Maldives Adventure day 5

Max's Maldives Adventure day 5

We started off doing another manta dive in the same spot that we were at for the last dive yesterday.  It was more manta, octopi getting intimate, schools of fish, and rays but better viz and every bit as awesome.   The second dive was on this really cool coral wall.  We jumped into a ripping current and followed the guide to the wall where we were protected.  There was beautiful fan corals that hadn’t been touched (no storms in the Maldives to break them up) as well as countless other types with all the colors that you could...

Today was shark palooza!!!  Also high current drift dive palooza!!!!  Ok, that doesn’t really work but you get the point.)  We did 4 dives and all of them were exceptionally cool.  Many of the dives in the Maldives have some current; this brings in fresh nutrients and food, which in turn attracts the much sought after pelagics.  And as we learned January has some of the strongest currents… On the 1st dive we dropped into blue water and drifted over to the wall.  From there the current was ripping and sent us flying down the wall.  There are different amounts...

We got the tour of the boat and were briefed...

Max's Maldives Adventure Day One

I left boston at 9:30 on Saturday night and got here at 9am Maldivian time, which amounted to something like 27 hours of travel time. This was by far the longest journey that I have ever made but Qatar airlines made it as comfortable as possible (the constant supply of gin & tonics and a good movie selection certainly helped). It was only 2 flights with a long layover in Qatar but it didn’t feel nearly as bad as it sounds. I am not very good at sleeping on planes though so I was pretty wiped afterwards. If you are...

Max's Maldives Adventures

Maldives Adventure So I am in the Maldives! I am diving with the Manthiri Liveaboard scouting out the trip that ECD is running next March (and having some fun on the side) and figured I would write a (semi)daily blog to let everyone know how it is! The Maldives is known for the beautiful reefs, colorful fish and - coolest of all - their majestic whale sharks. If you want to read through everything you can find my daily postings below, or, you can just go directly to the source and check out all my pictures (I'll be updating this...
