Max's Maldives Adventure day 5

Max's Maldives Adventure day 5

We started off doing another manta dive in the same spot that we were at for the last dive yesterday.  It was more manta, octopi getting intimate, schools of fish, and rays but better viz and every bit as awesome.   The second dive was on this really cool coral wall.  We jumped into a ripping current and followed the guide to the wall where we were protected.  There was beautiful fan corals that hadn’t been touched (no storms in the Maldives to break them up) as well as countless other types with all the colors that you could...

Whaleshark whaleshark whaleshark whaleshark whaleshark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That’s how many whale sharks we saw today!!!!!  We probably saw some sharks and stuff on the first dive but I can’t really remember because I saw 5 whale sharks on the two afternoon dives!!!!!    As we were gearing up for the dive the boat spotted one near the surface and got ahead of it to drop us in the water.  Fortunately where I dropped in was right where it was swimming to and it just cruised right on past me.  Those things are awe inspiring!  As It passed me I tried to swim with...

Max's Maldives Adventure Day One

I left boston at 9:30 on Saturday night and got here at 9am Maldivian time, which amounted to something like 27 hours of travel time. This was by far the longest journey that I have ever made but Qatar airlines made it as comfortable as possible (the constant supply of gin & tonics and a good movie selection certainly helped). It was only 2 flights with a long layover in Qatar but it didn’t feel nearly as bad as it sounds. I am not very good at sleeping on planes though so I was pretty wiped afterwards. If you are...

My First Boat Dive

My First Boat Dive

In August I was given the opportunity to go to Los Angeles for a couple of weeks. As a newly certified open water diver I was excited to get the opportunity to dive in a new ocean. I live in Massachusetts and had only dove locally. I also had only done shore dives. While my open water certification class gave me the skills to dive off a boat, I hadn’t gone on any trips yet. The local dive shops in LA only offered boat dives so if I wanted to experience the Pacific I needed to book a charter. I...
